Bartlet Mall board to discuss fundraising, possible smoking ban

NEWBURYPORT — Members of the Bartlet Mall Commission are scheduled to meet tonight at 6 in the public library on State Street.

Among items to be discussed is the status of fund-raising efforts for beautification and improvement projects of the city landmark.

Commission leaders say they are attempting to raise money to purchase pumps and aerators that they say will help improve the quality of the water.

The commission is also scheduled to discuss a “no smoking” regulation on the property. Recent studies have shown that debris, including cigarette butts, is washed into the Mall’s Frog Pond during rainstorms.
