---- — The Rowley Family Connection is offering a free Joppa Flats Preschool Nature Class tomorrow from 1 to 2 p.m. The class, which is geared toward 2- to 5-year-olds, will be held at Pine Grove School in Rowley.

Naturalist Lisa Hutchings from Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport will conduct the program called “Imagine, Sing and Learn to Go: Polar Pals: Penguins in the South Pole and Polar Bears in the North.” Children in attendance will learn all about polar bears — how they live, how they grow and how they survive on one of the coldest places on Earth. Hutchings will incorporate guided role play, songs, sound effects, props and hands-on science in her presentation.

The Rowley Family Connection is a program funded by the Department of Early Education and Care with the goal of increasing and improving Rowley’s resources for families with young children by providing social, recreational and cultural opportunities. The group offers free weekly play groups for young children and family-based after-school and weekend activities. Contact Aimee Morland at 978-948-8702 or for more information.

Triton Regional High School seniors Matthew Faulkner and Dmitri Hunt have been named Commended Students by the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Commended students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2013 competition by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Faulker plans to major in applied math and statistics, while Hunt hopes to become an engineer.

The next book to be read by the Rowley Book Club is “Catherine the Great, Portrait of a Woman” by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Robert Massie. Copies of the book are available at the town library, where the book club meeting to discuss the book will be held on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 6:30 p.m.

Rowley Public Library will host a Lego Club for children ages 2 to 5 on Jan. 28 and Feb. 25 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The Triton Music Parent Organization will present “Finnegan’s Wake,” an improvisational, interactive comedy set at an Irish wake, on Saturday, March 23, at Governor’s Academy in Byfield.

Proceeds from this evening of interactive comedy will support the arts at Triton through scholarships, awards and equipment purchases.

Tickets are $25 per person or $45 per couple. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8. Visit for ordering details.
