Giving Tree to collect items for children, babies

Newburyport Daily News

---- — NEWBURYPORT — Starting Saturday, Feb. 16, Community Giving Tree will hold monthly collections of gently used children’s clothing and baby goods at the Cushing Playground on Kent Street.

The Giving Tree van will be in the parking lot at the playground from 10 a.m. to noon on the third Saturday of every month, collecting gently used baby and children’s clothing, crib bedding, high chairs, safety gates, pack ’n’ plays, baby monitors, anything needed to raise a baby. No toys will be collected.

Community Giving Tree partners with social services agencies throughout Essex County to distribute these items to local children in need. In 2012, they distributed clothes, diapers and safety equipment to over 5,000 children; with these new collections, they hope to help thousands more.

Other collection dates include March 16, April 20, and May 18; if there is more than an inch of snow, the collection is canceled.
