---- — NEWBURY — The Essex Base Ball Organization, a nonprofit baseball group that tries to recreate baseball as it was played in the 1860s, is holding a recruitment meeting for players on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. at Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm, 5 Little’s Lane.
The Essex Base Ball organization is made up of five historical teams that all played throughout the 19th century in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The teams play just about every Sunday at Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm from May until October.
Interested players are invited to come learn more about the league and what baseball was like when pitching was underhand, an out could be recorded if caught in the air or off the first bounce and the game was played with wooden bats and before gloves were invented.
