Open Gym at Page School during Feb. vacation

WEST NEWBURY — The Park and Recreation department is offering a new way to help keep the community’s kids active over school vacation weeks.

The Open Gym program allows students who attend the Dr. John C. Page Elementary School access to the school gym for pick-up basketball games, shoot-arounds and other student-generated basketball drills.

For the upcoming February vacation Open Gym will run twice a day for two-hour slots on Tuesday, Feb. 19, through Friday, Feb. 22. The time slots are noon to 2 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.

The program is free and no pre-registration is required. Just bring the child to the Page cafeteria and a parent volunteer will be at the entrance door to sign children in as they enter the school. Students should bring their own basketball.

In order for the program to work, two parent volunteers are needed for each time slot.

Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Dionne Waite, dionnewaite@msn.com.
