People Helping People

The following volunteer opportunities are available in the Greater Newburyport area:

Anna Jaques Hospital is looking for information desk volunteers. The shifts are 8 a.m. to noon and noon to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Volunteers will greet patients and visitors, provide directions and occasionally escort patients and visitors to their destinations. Call the Anna Jaques Hospital volunteer office at 978-463-1150. There are also available volunteer shifts for the gift shop and mail room.

Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley is recruiting and training volunteers to help the elderly with various tasks. These include: providing transportation to medical appointments and accompanying elders to these appointment, food shopping, pharmacy pickups, bill management and companionship. Auntie’s Closet, Volunteers are needed for “Auntie’s Closet,” a charity thrift store in Salisbury. Tasks would include counter sales, organization, and pricing. Thursday through Sunday. Merrimack Valley Hospice, Home Health VNA, 360 Merrimack St., Lawrence- contact Sheryl Meehan, volunteer coordinator, 978-552-4522 or smeehan@homehealthfoundation.org, Merrimack Valley Hospice is a nonprofit organization serving northeastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. Volunteer opportunities include working with patients and families directly, administrative support to hospice staff, fundraising and more. Volunteers receive mileage reimbursement and training. A commitment of two to four hours a week on an as-needed basis is required.
