Nominations open for YH town crier

NEWBURYPORT — Nominees for the 2012 Yankee Homecoming Town Crier are now being sought. An event open to all, candidates will campaign from March 9 through May 1. The candidate with the most votes wins the honor of leading the Yankee Homecoming Parade on Aug. 5. Other benefits of the position include selecting which band to follow him/her down the parade route, judging the Yankee Homecoming Parade floats, sitting in the reviewing stand with their family and receiving an engraved bell.

With "Vote Early and Vote Often" being the motto of this campaign, votes are sold for $1 each, with each candidate being expected to raise at least $1,000 through "voting." All proceeds are designated to offset the costs of the Yankee Homecoming Parade, while all "voters" are entered into a raffle offering some great prizes. The person receiving the most votes will be announced as the 2012 Yankee Homecoming Town Crier on Tuesday, May 1, where the raffle for "voters" will be drawn.

This is a truly wonderful way for everyone to have an opportunity to be involved in Yankee Homecoming. For more information, contact Geri Dorr at tpi5496@aol.com or at 978-590-9426.
