WEST NEWBURY — The West Newbury Page School Parent Teacher Organization will hold its annual Apple Harvest Run fundraiser event for the John C. Page Elementary School on Sunday, Oct. 3. The race includes a 5-mile USATF-certified race, a 5K USATF-certified race and health walk, and a children's 1-mile fun run. The day's events attract as many as 2,000 spectators and participants from the North Shore and New England region. Festivities include live entertainment, great food, prizes and a complimentary T-shirt for the first 500 participants.
The fun run will be at noon, followed by the 5-miler at 12:30 p.m. and the 5K and health walk at 12:40. The races will begin at 15 Bachelor St., Action Cove Playground, behind the police and fire station safety complex on Route 113.
Register online or download forms to mail in at www.appleharvestrun.org. There are discounts and a chance to win a mountain bike for registrations received before Sept. 17.
The second annual Fuel Up! Spaghetti Dinner, held the night before the race, will feature entertainment from Don't Call Me Shirley. The band plays contemporary, popular and classic hits from the 1960s to today. Dinner will be served from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the West Newbury Town Hall Annex. The community is invited to attend.
The PTO relies on this annual event to fund various programs at the Page School with special supplies and experiences to enrich the classroom experience. Examples include technology enhancements, as well as cultural programs. Recent budget constraints underline the importance of this year's event and the need for continued support from the local community.
The event is still accepting donations of gift certificates, gift baskets or cash donations to be used for prizes and to support costs. Businesses that would like to make a donation of any kind should contact Maureen Hart Mooney, race director, at Maureen.hart1@gmail.com.
Sponsors for the event are still being accepted. For more information, visit www.appleharvestrun.org. The Event Committee would like to thank its generous sponsors, especially its Platinum Sponsor, The Provident Bank, as well as its Gold Sponsors: West Newbury School of Music, Executive Gourmet Services, Smyth Graphics and Active Life Chiropractic, and Long Hill Orchards.
