Autism workshops kick off parenting series at library

AMESBURY — The first in a series of four parenting workshops at the Amesbury Public Library will be held on Sept. 22 at 6:30 p.m.

Nancy Wiseman, author and founder of the national organization First Signs, will discuss the first signs of autism, what to be concerned about and what not to be, what to do if you have a diagnosis, and resources to use. Feel free to bring any questions you might have. A book signing will follow at 7:30 p.m. Registration is required.

In October, the library presents an educator workshop entitled: What is Autism? Learn about the signs, tips for teaching and available resources on Oct. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Amesbury Cultural Center.

Jean Stern from Asperger's Association of New England will present a workshop about autism, what to look for, how a child with autism thinks, and tips to use in your classroom or day care. All teachers and day-care providers are welcome. A certificate for continuing education credit will be provided. Registration is required.

For more information or to register, contact the children's room at 978-388-8148, ext. 4 or www.amesburylibrary.org. This workshop is made possible by a grant from the MBLC and the Institute for Library and Museum Services and the Friends of the Amesbury Library.
