WEST NEWBURY — Police said they anticipate issuing a summons to a 29-year-old man believed to be living in Amesbury who prompted a police search Thursday night after he ran away and claimed to have a gun.
Police Sgt. Jeffrey Durand said police received a call from the mother of Zachary Pollard who said her son ran out of the car near the area of Indian Hill and Cherry Hill streets following an argument, and he told his mother he had a gun.
That claim prompted a search by police with state police tracking dogs and the state police air wing assisting.
Police said they are investigating Zachary Pollard and whether he is connected to a breaking and entering of a barn on Indian Hill Road.
Durand said the property owner discovered the barn door open yesterday morning and saw a number of items out of place.
Durand said a number of boxes had been rummaged through, and there were knives lying around.
Nothing appeared to be taken from the property.
Durand said evidence from the scene is still being processed.
Police have not had the opportunity to speak with Pollard yet, Durand said.
