Salisbury: Fire, accident make for busy night for police, fire

SALISBURY — Salisbury's police and fire departments had a busy Friday night, responding first to a fire on Bridge Road and then to a report of an intoxicated driver who had hit several cars in the Route 1 traffic circle in Seabrook.

A passing state trooper reported a fire at 156 Bridge Road at about 7:20 p.m., according to fire Chief Rick Souliotis. Three pumper trucks responded to the building and extinguished the fire, with one firefighter rescuing a cat from the second story. No one was home at the time, Souliotis said, and no firefighters were hurt.

Souliotis said the fire started in the living room, and police and fire officials are still investigating the cause. While the second floor was not badly damaged, the first floor is "unliveable," he said. "The house is salvageable, but it'll be gutted," Souliotis said.

Shortly after the fire, at about 8:15 p.m., Seabrook police reported that a white Subaru had struck several cars in the traffic circle before heading south into Salisbury. Police eventually pulled the car over on Gerrish Road.

The driver, Daniel Noone, 25, of 101 Forest Road, Salisbury, was charged with driving while under the influence of drugs, driving without a license, five counts of possession of a class E substance, two counts of possession of a class B substance, a marked lanes violation and a warrant.

Noone was to be arraigned today in Newburyport District Court.
