Newbury School Notes: Team moves on to state Destination Imagination tournament

Seven Newbury Elementary School teams participated in the Destination Imagination competition at Triton Regional High School, with five teams placing in the final standings..

And one team finished in first place in the middle school division of the Obstacles of Course competition. Robin Williams' team of Jessica Fish, Madison Williams, Mikayla Gigandet, Jason Plumer, Jonathon Kovach and Michael Woodbury will compete at the state tournament on April 12..

This team was awarded the DaVinci Award for demonstrating outstanding creativity in their design and presentation..Only two teams out of the 64 in the competition received that award.

E-Switch team members, managed by Denise Scalfani, were Sam Haley, Jed Cutter, Hans Morris and Robi Scalfani. Obstacles of Course team members, managed by Becky Morgan and Liza Marcolini, were Hannah Morgan, Michael Marcolini, Kyle Stackpole, Olivia Anderholm, Keenan Greene, Tess Broll and Keegan Wallace.

The Rising Stars, managed by Becky Morgan and Ellie Davis, were Haley Morgan, Jonah Davis, Sara Stackpole, Lizzie Caldwell, Devon Johnson, Jacqueline Downs and Jack Taylor. Linda Gershuny managed another Obstacles of Course team with Ryan Gershuny, Andrew Haley, Alex Swanson and Olivia Maggiacomo.

E-Switch team members, managed by Lynn Kessler, were Eliza Mullen, Emily Booth, Sara Kessler, Allison MacIsaac and Laurel White. Cheryl Wotton managed the Hit or Myth team with Jackson Wotton, Connor Christuk, Taylor Gigandet, Ethan Esber, Barrett Town, Jack McCraven and Trevor Dee.

Newbury Elementary School students celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday recently with a Read Across America Day celebration..The entire school gathered in the gymnasium, where they enjoyed the literature of Dr. Seuss as well as the writing and illustration of some of their fellow students. .

Media specialist Liz Raycroft hosted the event and music teacher Laurie Peterson directed some third-graders in a musical, rhyming performance.

.Students returned to their classrooms to meet with special guest readers. Special readers included administrators from the Triton Regional School District, Newbury police officers, Newbury selectmen and Triton School Committee members, and athletes from the high school, Cara Wilson, Paige Stokes, Nicki Wurderman, Sarah Peterson, Lauren Savage, Andrew Fecteau, Cam Kneeland, Chris Lesage, Zack Welch and Joe Katin.
