The YWCA Greater Newburyport will host a series of intimate dinner parties in Newburyport homes on Saturday, May 17. Each dinner features a special guest who is a performing artist or leader in business, medical, civic, academic, science, sports, or arts community who shares his/her talents or insightful ideas during the evening. Scholarships available

DeValera Daughters of Isabella (female counterpart of the Knights of Columbus) will again offer two $500 scholarships to graduating Catholic seniors who will be continuing their education at a school of higher education. The scholarships are open to graduating seniors from Amesbury, Triton and Newburyport schools. For an application, contact Judith Kennedy, regent, Daughters of Isabella, 15 Kent St., Newburyport, MA 01950. Deadline for return of application is May 9.

Refuge seeks recruits for conservation corps

Parker River National Wildlife Refuge seeks recruits for its Youth Conservation Corps. Four positions available: two for boys, two for girls, who will work 40 hours per week for approximately eight weeks and earn the current minimum wage ($8/hour). Tentative dates are June 23 to Aug. 15. Candidates must commit to the full eight-week program, be 15 but have not reached 19 years during the time of employment, be a U.S. resident, have a Social Security number, and have a desire and ability to work outdoors. Applications are at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, 6 Plum Island Turnpike, Newburyport, MA 01950, located off Rolfe's Lane, or at most local high school guidance departments. Office hours at the refuge are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call 978-465-5753. Applications must be received at the refuge no later than 4:30 p.m. on May 2. Selection by random drawing will be completed by May 9.
