NHS Best Buddies program will meet May 13

Join Newburyport High School's Best Buddies program at Flatbread Co. in Amesbury on Tuesday, May 13, from 5 to 9 p.m. Best Buddies is an international organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships and integrated employment.

Ham and Bean suppers back at Masonic Hall

Monthly all-you-can-eat ham and bean suppers, from 4:30 to 6 p.m., at the Masonic Hall, 31 Green St. Hot dogs, ham, two types of beans, coleslaw, potato salad, brown bread and desserts. Parking available behind the hall for those attending. Adults, $7; children under 12, $4. Tickets at the door. For more information, call 978-465-9873.

Membership month at branch library

May is Membership Month at the Emma L. Andrews Branch Library, in the south end. Children enjoy story hours, adults participate in arm chair yoga, knitting, or a book club. The branch offers benefits of larger libraries without a long wait for the latest books. Ongoing book sale benefits the scholarship fund. Annual membership supports purchase of literature and worthwhile programs. Make a tax-deductible contribution to join or renew membership in the Andrews Branch Improvement Association Inc., 77 Purchase St., Newburyport, MA 01950. For more information, call 978-465-4430. Hours are Wednesdays, 1 to 5 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon.

Monday, May 19: With Amesbury and "Tunes of Distinction," a lively tattoo with Royal Highland Regiment (Black Watch) at the MassMutual Center, Springfield. Lunch in the Grand Ballroom. Cost: $79, inclusive. Departs from the Elks Lodge, Low Street, at 9:30 a.m., returns at 6 p.m.
