Peace Fellowship Award deadline extended

A $1,000 peace fellowship will be awarded this spring by the Newburyport chapter of WAND, Women's Action for New Directions, to support development of a young peacemaker wanting to continue making a difference by addressing injustice and promoting peace. A secondary but equally important goal is to train youth leaders who will work for change through social and political activism. Applicants may be high school seniors or graduates who live in Newburyport, Amesbury, Triton, Pentucket, Georgetown, or Haverhill. Deadline for receipt of applications has been extended to May 2. Bicentennial Fashion Show at Belleville Church

Belleville Congregational Church, 300 High St., Newburyport, will present a Bicentennial Fashion Show on Sunday, May 11, at 2 p.m. Fashions from 1808 to 2008 will be modeled and on display. A private collection of fashions from the 1700s and early 1800s will be on view. High tea will be served by the men of the church in honor of Mother's Day. Tickets, $5 apiece, may be purchased at the door. The show will be accessed through the Chapel Street side door of the church.

Worship Series May 15

The last talk in the "Understanding Others' Worship" series will be held on Thursday, May 15, from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Newburyport Public Library. Geshe Gendun Dyatso, Spiritual Director of the Healing Dharma Center, West Newbury, will speak on Buddhism. The talk is free, and all are welcome.

Knitting, Origami and Chair Yoga

Marge Killam will host and Introduction to Knitting Class Wednesdays, from June 4 to June 25, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Emma L. Andrews Branch Library, 77 Purchase St., Newburyport. The class is limited to eight participants and free of charge. Contact 978-465-4430 to register.
