Amesbury Days gets new look

AMESBURY — Mayor Thatcher Kezer is launching a new page on the city's Web site to promote the upcoming Amesbury Days celebration.

The page will be available May 9. An annual tradition, this year's celebration begins Wednesday, June 25, and continues through July 4 with the Fireworks Finale at Woodsom Farm.

While the mayor is finalizing appointments to the Amesbury Days Committee, work has already begun on the scheduling and marketing of the celebration. With many favorite activities planned and sponsored by local organizations and groups, the foundation of a fun-filled calendar of events is already forming.

For the latest information, residents and visitors will be able to visit Amesbury's Web site, at www.Amesburyma.gov, and click on the Amesbury Days link for a schedule of events, volunteer opportunities, programming ideas and donations. Additional information will be added over the coming weeks as details are determined and programs are added.

The committee is accepting donations for programs and the Fireworks Finale.

Anyone can donate either by purchasing an advertisement in the Amesbury Days brochure or by sending a check to the Amesbury Days Committee, c/o Town Hall, 62 Friend St., Amesbury, MA 01913. Donors please note the address change.

Amesbury Days funds are managed by the Amesbury Days Committee and are focused on events and activities that are free and open to all.

The Amesbury Days brochure, a popular item last year, is distributed throughout the community prior to the start of the celebration and includes a full calendar of events, information about Amesbury Days and the city.

Donations for advertisements are being accepted now through June 6 and include different giving options. For more information about supporting Amesbury Days with an advertisement, interested donors should call Joni Baptiste at 978-388-8110.

In addition, the committee will seek volunteers and ideas for new programs. If individuals or organizations have ideas for events, programs, or activities, they may submit them for inclusion in the master calendar and marketing packages.

Funding for programs is also available, through an application process with the committee. The application is available on the Amesbury Days Web page.

Funding will be granted to programs that present a good plan and offer activities available to all.

Kezer has stated his goal is to continue to see Amesbury Days grow with quality events that appeal to families in and around Amesbury. He is also hoping to see the theme of "Carriage Town" incorporated into many of the activities being planned this year.

In 2007, Kezer reinstituted the steering committee approach used by the selectmen in the past, as a means to aid David and Terry Pare in planning a comprehensive calendar of events that will help bring the celebration to a new level.

For more information, to submit program ideas or to volunteer, call Sue Yeames at 978-388-8110.
