Heard Around Town: Amesbury shops on the move

AMESBURY — There's a bit of a store shuffle going on downtown.

Parke Place, the shop on Market Street, will be moving into the former Amesbury Dry Cleaners building on Friend Street, and the new Wick'd Kool shop opened its doors Friday in the space that had been occupied by OPEN ArtSpace at 15 Friend St.

Parke Place owner Deb Pagley said she hopes to be moved into her new place by mid-June. Arriving in Amesbury from Newburyport a few years ago, Pagley said she had long hoped to move more into the heart of downtown.

Once in her new location, Pagley said, her doors will stay open late on weekend nights to draw in customers looking to browse around town after dinner.

"That location is perfect," Pagley said. "That's where the restaurants are and the parking lots."

She hopes the idea of holding night hours will spread to other shops. Wick'd Kool owner Deb Drew and Charlotte Sorenson, owner of Charlotte's Beads on Friend Street, have also expressed an intent to stay open later, Pagley said.

"It's something totally new for Amesbury," Pagley said.
