Amesbury: Coloring contest winners receive savings bonds

AMESBURY — The Amesbury Lions Club recently awarded U.S. Savings Bonds to the winners of their first annual coloring contest.

Children in the Amesbury After-School Program were invited to participate. Each child in the program received a Lions International coloring book with a few details about the Lions Club and services to the community and was asked to color a specific page. A first- and second-place winner was selected in each of three groups.

First-prize winners Isabella Miranda and Chloe Hammond at Amesbury Elementary School and Jana Stevens at Amesbury Middle School were awarded a $100 savings bond, and second-prize winners Isabel Allain, Kira Hazelwood at Cashman School and Holly Gilday at Amesbury Middle School were awarded $50 savings bonds. Each child who participated in the contest received a gift card to Maggie Sundae.

The Amesbury Lions Club mascot "Mr. Lion" awarded the prizes at Cashman and Amesbury Elementary Schools, much to the delight of the children.

The Lions would like to thank Kathy Crowley, youth director for Amesbury, for her staff's assistance in conducting the contest. The Lions Club would also like to thank Maggie Sundae and the Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank in Amesbury for their help.

The Amesbury Lions intend to make this an annual event in the hopes that it will help children and parents in the community learn about the Lions Club. Prize-winning drawings will be on display at Maggie Sundae.
