Woman stable after rollover

AMESBURY — A woman was hospitalized after a rollover on Interstate 495 yesterday afternoon that backed up traffic for several miles.

Caitlin Dorney, 21, of Staatsburg, N.Y., was traveling northbound in the left lane at about 3:12 p.m. when her 2008 Honda Civic rolled over slightly north of Exit 54 near the Amesbury Sports Park, according to state police reports. The car came to rest upright in the high speed lane of the highway.

Dorney was taken to Anna Jaques Hospital in serious condition, according to state police, but was flown to Boston in stable condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman. Police are still investigating the accident.

The accident backed up traffic more than two miles back to Merrimac. Amesbury and Merrimac emergency personnel responded to the scene.
