Newbury: Rape suspect arraigned

NEWBURYPORT — A local man was arraigned Friday on three counts of rape at Newburyport District Court.

Daniel Noone, 26, formerly of 58 Middle Road, Newbury, is being held on $100,000 cash bail.

Noone was arrested in Lowell on Thursday by Essex County sheriff's deputies on a warrant issued after a Low Street, Newbury, resident called 911 saying Noone had assaulted and raped her three times.

Noone, well known to local police, fled the scene and was known to hide out locally in the woods, police said.

Nearly a dozen police departments were involved in the manhunt, from Newburyport officers and the Amesbury K-9 unit searching the Low Street area immediately after the initial report to Lawrence, Lowell and Sudbury police departments assisting in the investigation.

Noone is due to return to court on Sept. 19.
