National Night Out to feature Ronald McDonald

AMESBURY — The Amesbury Police Department will be taking part in the 25th annual National Night Out tonight from 6 to 8 at the Cashman Elementary School on Lions Mouth Road.

The Amesbury Public Library will be co-sponsoring the event to promote community and police partnerships and the summer reading program. The event will be held rain or shine.

Appearing at this year's event is Ronald McDonald, with his traveling show. At 6:30 p.m., Ronald will be appearing thanks to Bump-A-Nose productions and McDonald's on Macy Street.

Back by popular request is WODS, Oldies 103.3 FM. WODS plays hits of the '60s and '70s and features shows like "Elvis Only," "Beatle Brunch" and "The Lost 45s." Saab's East Coast Martial Arts demonstration team will be performing at 7 p.m.

To celebrate the success of community policing in Amesbury, free Pizza Factory pizza will be available, thanks to the Amesbury Police Officers' Association. The Seacoast Coca-Cola Bottling Co. is also donating soda and water, and Harborside Healthcare Maplewood will be providing free strawberry and hot fudge ice-cream sundaes.

Target Stores is a national sponsor of the National Night Out, and store representatives will be volunteering and providing free giveaways.

On display will be all kinds of cars and trucks for kids of all ages to see, including antique cars, service vehicles, military equipment and plenty of emergency vehicles, too. This year, KITT from "Knight Rider," a television show of the 1980s, will also be on display.
