The lights are going out in downtown Amesbury

Downtown Amesbury will lose power for much of Monday due to scheduled maintenance on a large transformer off Main Street, according to the Amesbury Chamber of Commerce.

National Grid will turn off power from 17 to 54 Main St., 6 to 18 Market St., 1 to 11 Mill St. and 1 and 1R Water St. from 8:30 a.m. to about 4 p.m. National Grid did not return a call yesterday seeking details.

A large transformer situated behind Ovedia Artisan Chocolate at 37 Main St. will be disassembled and moved underground.

Businesses yesterday said they are not concerned, as many are closed on Mondays anyway.
