AMESBURY — An electrical fire damaged four apartments Sunday night at the Carriage Hill development, but no one was injured.
The fire started in a partition wall between two apartments about 8:45 p.m., according to fire Chief John Brickett.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but smoke and water damage rendered the apartments uninhabitable for the night.
Steve DeSantis, who lives in apartment 5, said he was not home at the time of the fire but could clearly see the damage when he returned.
"There's a gigantic hole in the wall the size of two doors between my apartment and apartment 7," DeSantis said.
Mark Lockwood of apartment 15 was also not home at the time of the fire, but that was all right with him.
"I'm glad it happened then instead of at 2 in the morning," Lockwood said.
Emma Perry, who works at the complex and lives in building 8, said one woman was taken to the hospital Sunday after suffering a panic attack, but was later released. The Northeast Red Cross is assisting residents while they wait for the apartments to be repaired.
