Candidates running for New Hampshire Executive Council District 3 seat, which includes Seabrook
Beverly A. Hollingworth, Democrat for re-election
Address: 209 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton, N.H.
Age: 72
E-mail:b.hollingworth@comcast.net
Education: University of New Hampshire, paralegal studies
Occupation: retired, hotel/motel, restaurant owner for 45 years
Offices held: Elected to Hampton Budget Committee; N.H. House of Representatives (five terms) and Senate (five terms), serving as president of the Senate for a term; Executive Council (one term)
Reason for running: My experience as a coalition builder and my record of bipartisan accomplishments in the Legislature and the Executive Council demonstrates my ability and my effectiveness. It would be my honor to return as executive councilor from District 3 to ensure that we move forward on commitments made to efficient and open government.
List no more than two major problems in the district you will be able to address if elected:
1) The national economic downturn and the $5 billion New Hampshire retirement plan problem impact state citizens directly. The Executive Council is responsible for appointing commissioners, department heads and regulatory board members to deal with these complex issues. I will continue to work hard to ensure the very best persons are appointed through non-partisan process and that there is transparency in our state government.
2) During my current term, the Executive Council introduced a 10-year transportation plan that is fiscally responsible, reduces congestion and makes critical improvements to public safety. The plan includes expanding Interstates 93/95 and the Spaulding Turnpike, repair 89 bridges identified as being in critical need of repair by the Department of Transportation. The plan will be revisited during the next two years, and I believe I can make major contributions to the plan and wish to continue this important work.
