YWCA seeks Peace award nominations

NEWBURYPORT — The YWCA Greater Newburyport is reaching out to the community for nominees for the 2009 Nancy E. Peace "Action Against Prejudice" Award. This award is given each year at the Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast to someone who has demonstrated a clear commitment to eliminating racism, fighting prejudice and celebrating diversity in the community

The YWCA welcomes nominations for any adult or youth who lives or works in the YWCA Greater Newburyport area: Newburyport, Newbury, West Newbury, Amesbury, Salisbury, Merrimac, Georgetown, Rowley, Ipswich, Seabrook, Hampton, Hampton Falls or Kensington, N.H.

Strengthened by diversity, the YWCA draws together members who strive to create opportunities for women's growth, leadership and power. Aligned with that aspect of the YWCA mission, Newburyport High School graphic design student Kerry Flaherty impressed the YWCA MLK Event Committee with her recent submission of a marketing flier seeking nominations for the 2009 annual Action Against Prejudice Award. Kerry's design was selected from among a group of entries submitted by students in Aileen Maconi's graphic design course. The flier with Kerry's design will be used to request nominations for the upcoming Nancy E. Peace Action Against Prejudice Award.

Kerry's flier and the nomination forms can be found online at www.ywcanewburyport.org, or contact Ellie Davis at 978-465-9922. The deadline for nominations is Dec. 19.
