Truck flips, nearly hitting Newbury home

NEWBURY — A local man was taken into custody after the truck he was driving skidded on High Road and flipped over early last night.

Police are still investigating how Fred Jackman, 19, of 64 Green St., crashed his 1998 Chevrolet Silverado into the bushes at 42 High Road about 5:30 p.m. The truck ended up next to the home, but did not hit it.

About 20 feet of tire tread marks cut a diagonal across the lawn, leading to the pickup tipped over on the driver's side with the cab squashing shrubbery on the left side of the house. No one was home at the time of the accident.

Jackman was not seriously hurt and told police he was "totally sober" before he was taken into custody at the scene.

Sgt. Patty Fisher said Jackman would likely face criminal charges but said the investigation was not complete as of 9 last night.
