Library plans April vacation programs

NEWBURYPORT: Spring is finally here, and it's time for some fun during April vacation in the Children's Room. Sign up for all of the following events either in person or by phone at 978-465-4428 ext. 235.

On Tuesday, April 21, the Children's Room will be hosting another Game Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Stop by the library and play a wide variety of favorite games including Scrabble, Boggle, Sorry, checkers and many more. There will also be a variety of puzzles to complete. Children in grades kindergarten to six are welcome to drop in anytime during the day; no sign-up is required.

On Wednesday, April 22, naturalist and teacher Joann Healey will be making "blobber." She will show kids how to make plastic using chemistry — blobber. She will also demonstrate how to make naturally biodegradable plastic from milk. This program is for children in grades 2 to 4 and will take place at 10 a.m.

On Thursday, April 23, we will be making family trees. Plotting a family tree is a great way to get to learn about who we are and where we come from. Children in grades 1 and up will be learning what a family tree is and then creating a beautiful tree to take home at 2 p.m.

Throughout April Vacation week, the Children's Room will also be offering a series of YogaKids classes with associate Candy Blaxter. YogaKids recreates traditional yoga techniques and poses in fun and educational ways. Reading, storytelling, music, creative arts, science and earth care blend seamlessly with yoga poses to educate the whole child.

YogaKids classes will be held:

Tuesday, April 21, grades kindergarten and 1 will meet from 10 to 10:45 a.m.

Wednesday, April 22, grades 4 and 5 will meet from 3 to 3:45 p.m.

Thursday, April 23, grades 2 and 3 will meet from 10 to 10:45 a.m.

Friday, April 24, grades kindergarten to 3 will meet from 10 to 10:45 a.m. with a special David McPhail-themed class to coincide with the Literary Festival.
