Two more races decided

NEWBURY — While the races for Board of Selectmen drew most of the attention in Tuesday's annual town election, there were two other contests on the ballot.

Paul Thistlewood of 26 Central St. won a three-year term as fish commissioner, defeating Robert Fournier of 15 Springhill Road, 694-421.

Thistlewood is the fourth generation of his family to serve on the town's Fish Commission. The seat he won on Tuesday had been held by his late father, John, who died in January.

Longtime Tree Warden Peter Hollis of 45 Cottage Road turned back a challenge from Sean Pearson of 10 Fruit St. to win a new one-year term.

Hollis polled 876 votes to 390 for Pearson.

The two separate selectmen's races — for two three-year terms and one two-year seat — fish commissioner and tree warden were the only contests on the ballot.

Other candidates were unopposed. They were:

Planning Board, five-year term: Linda McCamic, 2 Longview Lane, 861 votes.

Planning Board, three-year, unexpired term: Kathleen Pearson, 21 Seaview Lane, 922 votes.

Moderator: two-year, unexpired term: Joan Weyburn, 13 River St. 925 votes.

Triton Regional School Committee (Newbury), three-year term: Suzanne Densmore, 32 School St. 1,027 votes.

Town Clerk, three-year term: Anne Hatheway, 40 Green St. 1,088 votes.

Board of Assessors, three-year term: F.N. Budd Kelley, 24 School St. 1,042 votes.

Trustee of the First Settlers Burial Ground, three-year term: Richard Cunningham, 155 Scotland Road, 1,133 votes.

Constable, four-year term: James Cunningham, 131 Scotland Road, 1,108 votes.

Library Trustee, two three-year terms: Mary Leary, 31 Greentree Lane, 932 votes; Melissa Mashburn, 6 14th St. 539 votes.

Library Trustee, two-year, unexpired term: Amy Swiniarski, 12 Greentree Lane, 947 votes.

Board of Health, three-year term: Elaine Byrne, 146 Northern Blvd. 962 votes.
