Chamber breakfast focuses on blogging

NEWBURYPORT — The Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce & Industry will host its monthly Breakfast Forum Series for members and residents on Thursday, June 4. Guest speaker Christine Halvorson will speak on "Social Media in Theory and Practice — Why is blogging for business important and what you need to know."

Halvorson of Halvorson New Media, LLC and Louis Karno & Company Communications in Concord, N.H., will provide an overview of online tools such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and corporate blogging. She'll explain what these "social media" tools are and how companies and nonprofits might use them to further their corporate communications and marketing strategies.

Halvorson, along with Stonyfield Farm CEO Gary Hirshberg, pioneered corporate blogging at Stonyfield in 2004. She continues to work on Stonyfield's blogs while advising other companies and organizations on the best uses of this "granddaddy" of corporate social media. Her current clients include the Portugal Trade and Tourism Office, Carlisle Wide Plank Flooring and the New Hampshire Small Business Development Center, among others. She provides social media consultation and training to the clients of Louis Karno & Company Communications, LLC in Concord and Website Publicity in Peterborough, N.H.

The Breakfast Forum, sponsored by The Provident Bank, is scheduled from 7:30-9 a.m. at Mission Oak Grill located at 26 Green St. A full breakfast will be served to all who attend; reservations are required. Admission is $20 for chamber members and $25 for non-members. To reserve a seat, call the chamber at 978-462-6680.
