Finalist chosen for assistant principal

GEORGETOWN — Superintendent Carol Jacobs is negotiating with a finalist to be middle/high school assistant principal. Current Assistant Principal Geoff Bruno has announced he is leaving after one year to take a principal position in Saugus.

The finalist, Jennifer Turner, is employed in the Hamilton-Wenham school district as a special needs teacher at the high school.

"The interview process is very lengthy," Jacobs said. "First (middle/high school principal) Peter (Lucia) looks through the resumes and chooses who he would like preliminary interviews with. Then he does interviews and narrows the field down."

Four people made the cut and went through several rounds of interviews with groups of parents, staff and students. "I was in with the students and was very impressed by their questions of the candidates," Jacobs said.

Jacobs said she hopes to finalize things with Turner tomorrow and introduce her to the School Committee at their meeting June 25.

"We will greatly miss Mr. Bruno," Jacobs said. "He was not here long, but he did a great job. He is a very student-oriented person who came in where (former Assistant Principal) John Faucher left off and really has made a difference in the students' lives."

Jacobs said she wishes Bruno well in his future job.
