PRESENTED
Rowley resident, 9-year-old Hannah Jean, a third-grader at Pine Grove School, with a proclamation for her achievement of first place in the Level 3 USAG all-around Massachusetts State Gymnastics Championship in May as a member of ACE Gymnastics of Ipswich.
APPROVED
Signed and accepted a change order for the Taylor Bridge for $8,439.63.
Appointed Doreen Glowik to the executive secretary for the selectmen and town administrator position at a yearly salary of $43,848. Glowik has been the administrative assistant in the treasurer's department for nearly 20 years. Her appointment is effective July 1.
Library request to use the town common on Thursday, July 16, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for annual vehicle night.
Use of the town common by the agriculture commission to hold a farmers market on Sundays from July 12 to Sept. 27.
Signed the contract with Action Ambulance of Wilmington for town services from July 1, 2009, to July 1, 2012. Action will ensure response times no longer than 10 minutes, with an average of 8 minutes. The average response time with the current provider, AMR, is 12 minutes.
Reappointments of the current employees for the 2009/2010 year for positions in the fire department, Board of Health, Council on Aging, Conservation Commission and for those jobs held by the building, plumbing and electrical inspectors, and town administrator and selectmen.
Move investment funds for the town into PRIT (Pension Reserve Investment Trust) instead of with the ERRB (Essex Regional Retirement Board).
DISCUSSED
A recent convention in Ipswich for the veterans of Iraq and Afganistan wars, attended by clerk Dick Cummings. It was agreed to include Rowley in the next convention to allow its veterans to learn more about the services available to them.
That the Essex County Scenic Byway Committee is working to make the road along Route 1A from Gloucester to Lynn a national scenic byway, which most likely will open up new funding opportunities for the town, particularly in the area of curbways, signage and securing underground utility lines.
A meeting of the Historic Commission regarding the properties on Main Street owned by Windover Association and the request for demolition permission on those sites. Town legal counsel Judy Pickett is reviewing the request.
That the clock in town on the First Congregational Church is now in working order after nearly three years, and final adjustments will be completed this week.
That the Fourth of July celebration is on for Saturday, July 4.
