---- — NEWBURYPORT — The Newburyport Brewing Company is a young enterprise but it is calling on the grandeur of centuries past as it puts out its next line of beers.
Bill Fisher, co-founder of the local enterprise, said the brewery will launch its “1635” series this week.
“This area has a rich history,” said Fisher, a local resident, “and we chose ‘1635’ because that’s the year when this area was first settled. We’ve had great support from the community, and we feel this historical connection ties in with the area’s past.”
Joppa Stout will be the first release of the 1635 series. It is “an Irish dry stout brewed with premium quality roasted malts, and is a dark ale that features smooth, bittersweet taste complemented by a dry, chocolate finish.”
The company, located in the industrial park, had made an effort to incorporate local color into its marketing campaigns.
Its beers include Newburyport Pale Ale, Plum Island Belgian White and Greenhead IPA.
The company released its first products in April. Its employment rolls have increased from just the two founders — Fisher and Chris Webb — to a roster that includes six full-time and four part-time employees.
Managers say that the Joppa Stout will be available for tasting on Thursday. It will be offered at the Port Tavern at 7 p.m. and at the Grog at 9 p.m.
