---- — NEWBURYPORT — The Newburyport High School community will be hosting welcoming 32 travelers from Spain for three weeks from Sept. 4 through Sept. 25. Host families are still needed for five boys and two teachers.
This is the second time Newburyport will welcome a group from Malaga, Spain, in September. There are plans under way to travel to Spain later in the school year.
Any family, large or small, with high school-aged children can be a host family for a boy.
The only requirement is a desire to welcome a foreign student into one’s family circle and show him the same interest and caring any traveler seeks when in a strange land.
It is not as demanding as it seems. The family provides a bed and meals, and allows the visitor to participate in its usual back-to-school activities. Family members do not need to speak Spanish to host a student.
Families without high school-aged children can host a teacher-chaperone.
The students will be occupied every day either in class or on a trip. The trips depart and return from the high school.
A family for each student is needed before they arrive. Even if a family can host a student for only part of his stay, they can still be eligible.
Families will be given a profile once a match has been made, enabling them to communicate with the student prior to their arrival by email or Facebook. Call Sue Boswell at 978-835-0133 or email email@example.com for more information.
