NEWBURYPORT — Mayor Donna Holaday has an early edge in at least one aspect of the upcoming mayoral election: She has raised the most money thus far.
A review of required filing records show that Holaday has received $22,875 in the period of Jan. 1 to Sept. 7. Challenger Richard Sullivan Jr. has raised $6,975 and Gregory Earls has collected $4,433.
Holaday has spent $12,261, Sullivan has expended $5,521 and Earls has put $3,358 into his campaign, according to records in the city clerk’s office.
The preliminary election is Tuesday, and the three candidates for mayor will be winnowed to two for the municipal election on Nov. 5. Candidates are required by law to file campaign reports nine days prior to the election.
