Mayor declares 'O'Connor Ives Day'

NEWBURYPORT — Mayor Donna Holaday has issued a proclamation designating a Kathleen O’Connor Ives Day in Newburyport.

O’Connor Ives is a three-term city councilor who was recently elected to the state Senate.

The 35-year-old lawyer and small-business owner has said she will leave the council to assume her position at the Statehouse in Boston.

O’Connor Ives, an at-large councilor, said she will resign from the City Council in early January, but no date of departure has been finalized.

Holaday said that O’Connor Ives has contributed valuable service to the council and the city, and issued the proclamation to highlight the departing councilor’s contributions.

City officials say that the City Council will name a successor sometime after O’Connor Ives submits her resignation.
