Lighthouse stamps on sale today

NEWBURYPORT - Local postal officials will take note of a special postage stamp today at 10 a.m. at the Pleasant Street post office.

Postmaster Paul Bolas said a stamp commemorating the nation’s lighthouses will be on sale.

Postal officials say that 83 million were produced in early summer, and today will be a time when collectors can purchase some of the remaining few.

Retired Coast Guard Rear Adm. Dan May will be present to mark one of the last opportunities to buy the stamp.
