Catching Clancy

Merrimack College senior quarterback Joe Clancy (Newburyport High, Class of 2009) threw for 434 yards and seven touchdowns — tying his own program and Northeast-10 Conference single-game record — in a 66-14 victory over Pace University Saturday. Clancy finished 26-for-41 for 434 yards, seven touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Govs extend streak

The Governor’s Academy football team extended its winning streak to 20 games Saturday with a 31-0 victory over Rivers School. The defense recorded its second shutout in a row, thanks to three interceptions -- one each from Brandon Lopez (Amesbury), Larson Bidstrup (Byfield) and Teddy Bettencourt. Bidstrup returned his interception for a touchdown. Lopez rushed for two more touchdowns. Will Dwyer kicked a field goal. Quarterback Tommy Vailas also rushed for a score.
