Free concert marks successful campaign for Screening Room

NEWBURYPORT — To the victors go the spoils: a free concert.

The Screening Room movie theater on State Street is completing a fund-raising event to generate $60,000 so it can convert to digital equipment.

Organizers say it has surpassed its goal, and as a result a final “fund-raising” concert slated for Sunday will be free.

The event runs from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Belleville Church and community center on High Street.

Musicians will include Liz Frame and the Kickers, EJ Ouelette and Crazy Maggy, Kate Redgate and Friends, High Rock Mountain and the Barn Burners. There will be baked goods, beverages and a silent auction.

Organizers say there is a final open house at the theater Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m. featuring classical guitarist John Tavano.
