Intro to meditation classes offered

The Insight Meditation Center of Newburyport will offer a drop-in beginner’s meditation class on Tuesday, 7-8:30 p.m,, $15; there will also be a five-week class entitled “An Introduction to Insight Meditation” starting Thursday, Nov. 7, 7-8:30 p.m., $95. The classes are designed for anyone interested in learning Insight Meditation (Vipassana). Vipassana is a simple practice that steadies the mind by grounding attention in the present moment; it originated in the Buddhist tradition more than 2,500 years ago. Programs at the Port Church

The Port Church Youth Group will meet the first and third Sundays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3, Nov. 17, Dec. 8 and Dec. 22. All youth grades 6-12 are welcome. During regular groups we share a meal, study and discuss faith topics, play games and connect with one another. We also host special outings such as laser tag, Christian concerts, sledding and lock-ins.

“Skits and Grits” Kids Ministry at the Port Church. The six-week class will be held Oct. 27, Nov. 17 and Nov. 24 at 10-11 a.m. for K-6 during worship. Kids will act out Bible stories in fun, modern-language skits on some weeks and will cook up tasty recipes on other weeks that teach a culinary skill as well as connect with the Bible.
