Yankee Homecoming news in brief

B Street Bombers blast onto waterfront

Making their first Yankee Homecoming appearance, the B Street Bombers kick off the Waterfront Concert Series in Market Landing Park tomorrow night. Formed in 1980, the 10-piece powerhouse band with a four-piece horn section has been performing all over the Merrimack Valley and Greater Boston for years. Their repertoire spans seven decades and includes a varied mix of styles. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Raising a glass to Homecoming

If you enjoy Yankee Homecoming, then why not show your support while sampling a selection of craft brews. Homecoming is hosting its Brewfest fundraiser today from 4 to 9 p.m. under a tent on the Newburyport waterfront adjacent to the boardwalk. Event-goers will select 12 beers to sample supplied by some of region's top brewers. Local favorite Ol' Brown Shoe will perform, and David's Tavern, The Upper Crust Pizzeria and The Traveling Chef will be offering food. Tickets for the 21-plus event are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Visit www.yankeehomecoming.com for more.

Admiring an original work of art

Area artists take to the outdoors for the annual Yankee Homecoming Art on Bartlet Mall today and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the green at High and Pond streets in Newburyport. The show and sale will highlight the talents of artists from across five states who work in oil, acrylic, watercolor and other mediums. Many of the artists have participated in the show for years. All pieces featured will be original or hand-pulled works, such as etchings, silk-screens and woodcuts; reproductions are not allowed in the show.

Belleville antique sale is back

After taking a year off, the Belleville Congregational Church's annual Antique Show and Sale returns on Monday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the church on 300 High St. It's always best to get there early, in fact lines usually start forming around 8 a.m.

Classic Homecomings on TV

The new series PortMedia Classics debuts Yankee Homecoming week with several events from the past 25 years.

Hosted by Wally Thurlow, it features the programs created by Newburyporters through cable access beginning in the early 1980s. Thurlow has spent the summer digitizing archived videotapes at PortMedia to create the series, which will become a staple on Channel 10, Newburyport's public access channel on the Comcast cable system. It starts Monday, at 6 p.m., with 1994 Old-Fashioned Sunday, then at 8 p.m., 1989 Super Saturday/Coast Guard Band. Shows will continue through the week.
