VIDEO: Lowell's Boat Shop

Lowell's Boat Shop on the banks of the Merrimack River is gearing up for a $100,000 fundraising drive to build a 28-foot whaleboat for Mystic Seaport in Connecticut. Mystic Seaport is underway on a $10 million-plus restoration project of the last remaining whaling ship, the Charles W. Morgan. Lowell's, a non-profit working museum dedicated to preserving and perpetuating the art and craft of wooden boat building, is hoping to build one of the seven whaleboats that would accompany the refurbished Charles W. Morgan when it is completed in 2014. Lowell's is looking to raise the money by September 2012 and start construction in the winter.
