Amesbury, MA — Betty Frances (Maresca) Romeo, 87, of Amesbury, died peacefully on Friday evening, January 3, 2014, at Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill. She was the beloved wife of the late Vincent P. Romeo, who passed away on September 10, 2006.
Born in the Dorchester section of Boston, Betty was born February 14, 1926, and was one of six children of the late Frank and Emily (Evangelista) Maresca. After graduating from high school, she attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Betty was a member of the Copley Society of Art, as well as the Newburyport Art Association and the Marblehead Art Association.
As an artist, Betty loved painting and expressing herself on canvas. Her passion for art was a gift she shared, not only with her family, but also with her many friends, all of whom have been recipients of her artwork.
She is survived by her son, Mark A. Romeo and wife, Gail, of Amesbury; her two daughters, Georgette M. McDonagh and husband, Todd, of Haverhill, and Romilda “Romie” Emery and husband, Douglas, of Newburyport; six grandchildren, who totally captivated her heart, Madeline and Danny McDonagh, Aimee Klee, Jenee LeBlanc, and Elliot and Erika Romeo; and her precious great-granddaughter, Lillian Klee; her sister, Edith DeOrio of Newburyport; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
The legacy of her life will never be forgotten by those who loved and knew her.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, will be on Saturday, January 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., immediately followed by services at 2 p.m. Interment in the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society, 63 Elm St., Salisbury, MA 01952.
