Newbury — Barbara Ann Knapp, 83, died unexpectedly Friday, January 3, 2014, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
She was born in Stoneham, MA, February 9, 1930, and was the daughter of the late James G. Watters and Marion C. Craven. She was a 1947 graduate of Melrose High School in Melrose, MA and received her Bachelors Degree in Sociology. Mrs. Knapp worked as an administrative assistant for General Electric in Lynn, MA, Burlington, VT, and Schenectady, NY as well as A.W. Chesterton in Stoneham, MA.
Until the end of her life, Barbara lived the way we would all want to live - active and an integral part of the community. She had just returned from Greece and Turkey and was going to the Bahamas in January, Barbara belonged to two book clubs including the Emma Andrews Book Club. She was a member of Unity on the River, the Red Hat Group and the Newburyport Elks Club. Health and wellness were important to her and she attended exercise class several days a week. Saturdays would find her yard sale hopping with the best of them.
Family members include two sons, Robert Himeon and his wife, Linda, of Amesbury and David Himeon and his wife, Karen, of Coventry, RI; a daughter, Sarah Hamilton and her husband, Joe, of Friendswood, TX; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane Craven and her husband, Don Higley, of Carpinteria, CA. She was predeceased by her sons, Harold T. Himeon, III and Charles H. Himeon.
The family is proud to note that Barbara was an organ donor and her passing has provided new beginnings for many people.
