Cecilia (Roche) Azzarito, 86

Newburyport — Cecilia (Roche) Azzarito, 86, a lifelong resident of Newburyport, passed away peacefully on Wednesday surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Joseph Azzarito, who passed in January 2006; they were married for 52 years.

Cis was the daughter of the late Francis and Johanna (Murphy) Roche, both of whom emigrated from Ireland. Born in Newburyport on February 6, 1928, she graduated from Newburyport High School in 1945 and attended Salem State College. Her first job was an administrative assistant at Towle Silversmiths where she worked for many years before taking time off to raise her daughter, Sharon. She returned to work in 1979 as the assistant manager at the Northeast Trade Center in Woburn, working along side her husband. She was a volunteer at the Newburyport Red Cross and was a board member for the Newburyport YWCA during the time they built the first swimming pool in Newburyport. Cis was also an avid golfer, having been a member at Ould Newbury golf course for over 50 years.

Cis is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Azzarito) Bresnahan; her son-in-law, Stephen Bresnahan; her grandchildren, Chris, Taylor, and Abbie Bresnahan; and her brother, Kevin Roche of Mount Pleasant, New Jersey; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Francis Roche and Anne (Roche) McMahon.

Her smile, laugh and generous heart will be greatly missed by all.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Sunday, April 6, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conte, Twomey & LeBlanc Funeral Home, 193 High St., Newburyport, MA 01950. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, also in Newburyport.
