Raymond, NH — Scott Ronald Thornton, 48, of Raymond, N.H., passed on Saturday evening, April 5, 2014, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, after a courageous battle with leukemia, surrounded by his family.
Born in Stoneham on August 26, 1965, he was the son of Helen S. (Meuse) Thornton of Groveland, and the late Ronald E. Thornton, who died April 10, 1999. Scott grew up in Groveland, and graduated from Essex Agricultural School in 1983.
Scott and his brother, Jimmy, worked hand in hand with their father, Ronald, serving area funeral homes with quality burial vaults from Acme Vault Co. in Groveland, as well as providing grave openings in various cemeteries throughout the area. After the passing of his father 15 years ago, Scott and his brother continued the family business with the same excellence of quality and dedication to service, and in recent years, Scott’s son, Steven, has followed in his father’s footsteps.
No stranger to hard work, when the work was done, Scott made time to enjoy life with his family. He loved spending time on his boat fishing in the ocean, as well as going to his camp in Ebeemee Township, Maine, as much as possible to relax. This is where Scott really enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and off-roading with his 4-wheeler and his trucks. Scott lived life to the fullest.
He leaves behind his wife and love of his life, Barbara J. (Dow) Thornton of Raymond; his son, Steven J. Thornton and girlfriend, Trisha of Exeter, N.H.; his mother, Helen S. Thornton of Groveland; his brother, Jimmy E. Thornton and wife, Deborah, of Plaistow, N.H.; his two sisters, Lisa J. Spencer and husband, Padget, of North Carolina, and Lori D. Thornton and partner, Patricia Sullivan of Bradford; along with several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and dear friends, all of whom are deeply saddened by his passing, yet have been truly blessed by having known him.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at the Paul C. Rogers-Scatamacchia Funeral Home, 334 Main Street, Haverhill, will be held on Wednesday, April 9, from 3 to 6 p.m. A graveside service for family and friends will be held on Thursday, at 1 p.m., at Riverview Cemetery, Groveland.
