Merrimac — Gerard Joseph Roy passed away at his home in Merrimac on Thursday morning, April 4, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sherbrooke, Canada, October 24, 1934, Gerard was the son of the late Leo Paul and Blanche Roy. He grew up in Haverhill where he graduated from Haverhill Trade School in 1955. In 1968, Gerard bought his first 18-wheeler truck, which began a lifelong career and passion. He founded Gerard Roy Trucking, a business he built with his two sons.
He was a devoted family man and an avid fan of blue grass and country music.
Gerard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean (Ricker) Roy of Merrimac; son, Gerard Jr. and wife Cindy of Merrimac; daughter, Cindy and husband Robert Haskell of Merrimac; daughter, Darlene and husband, Michael Sieczkowski of Plaistow, N.H.; daughter, Sheila and husband, John Wallace of Merrimac; son, Edward and wife, Michele of Merrimac; nine grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; his brother, Robert and wife, Sara of Haverhill; and a large extended family. He was predeceased by his sisters, Louise Morrill and Rita Herrick.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held Sunday, April 7, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main St., Merrimac. Funeral services at the funeral home will be Monday at 9 a.m. followed by interment in Locust Grove Cemetery.
