Russell Del Torchio, 85

Gloucester, MA — Russell Del Torchio, 85, of Gloucester, husband of Elaine (Tate) Del Torchio, passed away on Sunday morning, April 7, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Russell Del Torchio was born in Gloucester on June 11, 1927, and was the youngest son of the late John and Ruth (Cummings) Del Torchio.

Russell was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1945, where he was captain of the football team and the ROTC. He served in the US Navy during World War II aboard the USS General W.C. Langfitt. After the war, he attended Champlain College in Upper State New York. He was employed for many years at Malden Mills in Lawrence as an engineer.

He married the love of his life, Elaine Tate, in 1950. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed many successful hunting trips to Down Maine, and recently he enjoyed swimming everyday with his many friends at the Cape Ann Marina.

He placed a great emphasis on family values and on being a fine gentleman, and was an excellent influence on the youth as a baseball and football coach. His love for his family's sports took him to football, baseball and basketball games throughout the North Shore and New England.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, Elaine Del Torchio, Russell was a cherished and beloved father to his children; son, Russell "Skip" Del Torchio Jr. and his wife, Dawn, of Newbury, daughter, Sandra Del Torchio and husband, Richard Simon, son, Steve Del Torchio and his wife, Stephanie, and daughters, Leigh Del Torchio and Terri Walima, all of Gloucester. He was loved by his grandchildren, Deidre Henry, Deana Tate and husband, Jason, Darla Wright and husband, Kenny, all of Newbury, Khris Silveria and wife, Jessica, of Gloucester, Trevor Silveria and wife, Denise, of Virginia, Stephen Del Torchio and wife, Kimberly, of Florida, Lindsay and Amy Del Torchio, Alexis, Ashley and Annika Walima, all of Gloucester. He was adored by his many great-grandchildren, Conor Henry, Abigail, Ethan and Adrian Tate, Sophia and Jack Silveria, Braden, Bryce and Brody Silveria, Gabrielle McQueeney and Allison Del Torchio. He leaves behind his brother, John Del Torchio, Jr., and his wife, Ruth, of Magnolia, along with many nieces and nephews.

Russell was predeceased by his sister, Marion Boudreau.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, will be held on Thursday, April 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. There will be no Funeral Services and a private burial will be held at a later date.
