Hampton, NH — Harriet (Wilkinson) McCurdy, 98, most recently of Hampton, N.H., passed away peacefully in her home on June 27, surrounded by her loving family. Harriet, who spent much of her life in Newburyport, Mass., Hampton, N.H., and Sarasota, Fla., was the wife of Harold McCurdy, who passed away in 2003.
Harriet was active in the Hampton Beach Chamber of Commerce, chairing for many years the Miss Hampton Beach contest, as well as numerous talent shows in the bandshell. She and Harold owned the Tides Motel and Hotel in Hampton Beach for over 50 years and while residing in Newburyport owned and operated the former McCurdy Rest Home and former Cutting Manor for many years.
Harriet was also a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newburyport and a member and Past Matron of Laurel Hill Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
Harriet is survived by her loving daughters, Joan Ewers and her husband, Bill, of Sarasota; and Judy Jester of Amesbury and her partner, Ned Brennan, of Newburyport. She also leaves four grandchildren, Jane McCartney, 52; Jim McCartney, 50, and Jeff McCartney, 48, all of Sarasota; and Jennifer Jester, 49, of Longmeadow, Mass.; and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss their beloved Gram. Harriet is also survived by her longtime dear friend, Anthony Consalvo, also of Hampton.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held Monday, July 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Funeral Home, 35 Green St., Newburyport. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 2, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 166 High St., Newburyport followed by burial in Belleville Cemetery, Newburyport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Harriet’s name to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Ave., Haverhill, MA 01830.
