Reuben D. Best, Jr., 84

AMESBURY — Reuben D. Best, Jr., (Ret.), 84, of Amesbury, has now joined his wife, Marguerite Gallant, daughter, Michelle Best, and parents in hereafter, on Monday, Aug. 23, 2010 at Sacred Heart Hospital with his children by his side.

Born in Newburyport to the late Effie and Reuben Best, Sr. He was an aerospace engineer and consultant raising a family of five children in Gahanna, Ohio.

Rube was a war veteran, U.S. Army, Staff Sergeant of the 398h Bombardment Squadron, 504th Bombardment Group, earning the Purple Heart, surviving a crash landing on the Island of Iwo Jima on April 24, 1945.

He is survived by four more children, Stephen Best CGD, Arthur Best, Denise DeCandia, and Kenneth Best, D.C. He has five grandchildren, Danielle Pouti, Jackie Bunton, Nicholas Best, Aaron Hooffstetter, Justin Best. He has three great-grandchildren Nathan Best, Ava Marie Bunton, and Ellis Best; and three nephews.

Reuben loved to travel with family and took a pilgrimage with his late wife to Lourdes France and Jerusalem; and with the aerospace industry all over the world, especially working tirelessly on the OV-10 Bronco program. He loved football and was very active in coaching and Boy Scouts for his family.

He was the first inductee to the OV-10 Hall of Fame.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family will receive friends at the Jutras Funeral Home, 118 Friend St., Amesbury, on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Service and burial immediately following. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Bartlett Cemetery in Amesbury. Condolences may be sent to family at: kenbest@kenbest.com.

    Daniel J. Fonseca, 65, of Lake Road, Wilton, died Sunday morning at the Togus VA Medical Center.

    He was born in Newburyport, MA, August 13, 1946, a son of Joseph and Helen Page Brown. On Feb. 25, 1968, he entered the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam Conflict where he received the Purple Heart and the Presidential Unit Citation. He retired from the Marine Corps as a result of permanent disability due to wounds received in action.

He graduated from Salem High, served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War and graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology as a civil engineer. He was employed with Insurance Services Offices in the field of fire protection where he was instrumental in establishing several standards and codes implemented in fire safety and apparatus requirements.

Class of 1937, where he had been the Captain of the High School Football Team in his senior year.

    AMESBURY — Norbert Joseph Ouellet, 86, a lifetime Amesbury resident, died January 24, 2012 at home with his wife at his side.
    Born in Amesbury on July 21, 1925, he was the son of the late Ludger and Bridget (Proulx) Ouellet. He is preceded in death by his three brothers and three sisters, Frederic, Henry, Francis, Estelle, Rita, and Louise. He grew up in an area called the "Brickyard" and remained lifetime friends with his "Brickyard" buddies. Norbert served his country during WW-II in the U.S. Army, serving from 1943-1946. On May 31, 1950, he married the love of his life Doris Cote. Their love for each other grew with the addition of their 4 children, Janet, Michael, Andre, and Sally. He devoted his life to his family, working as a machinist for the Bailey Company and started a business for his wife, Doris' Beauty Salon where his wife pursued her artistic talents.

A bank teller for more than 30 years with the Institution for Savings in Newburyport, she retired in 1994. Mrs. Lusher volunteered at Anna Jaques Hospital as well as the Merrimac Senior Center, and she loved to do puzzles, knitting, gardening and spending time with her lovable pups, P.J. and Mya.
