David Breton, 80

Amesbury, MA — David L. Breton, 80, a longtime resident of Amesbury, Mass., died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on April 4, 2013, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, Mass., after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on June, 4, 1932, in Bath, Maine, son of the late Lionel and Phyllis (Burden) Breton. David grew up in Portsmouth, N.H., and graduated in 1950 from Portsmouth High School.

David proudly served in the Army Signal Corps during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. After his military service, he was accepted into the sheet metal apprentice program at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, graduating in 1958. David worked for 35 years at the shipyard, spending the last 20 years as foreman, and then general foreman, of the sheet metal shop, prior to his retirement on June 4, 1987.

David was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling, including taking trips to Foxwoods, and was an avid sports enthusiast. He also enjoyed playing cards and gardening. David was a selfless and generous man who always made himself available to help his family with home repair projects and other needs. He was an active member of Holy Family Parish in Amesbury, Mass. He will be greatly missed by family and friends .

Besides his wife, Ann (Pare) Breton of 55 years, David is survived by two sons, Ronald and his wife, Gloria of Kensington, N.H., and Dennis and his wife, Claire of Windham, N.H.; a brother, Ret. Col. George Breton and his wife, Norma of Westminster, Calif; sisters, June Sullivan of Portsmouth, N.H., and Joan Regan and her husband, Joseph of Boxborough, Mass.; and a brother-in-law, Louis Vinciguerra. David is also survived by six grandchildren, Amanda, Ryan, Daniel, Kayla, Meaghan, and Molly Breton, and many nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy J. Vinciguerra.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend St., Amesbury, MA. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, at Holy Family Parish, 9 Sparhawk St., Amesbury, MA. Burial will follow at St Joseph's Cemetery.
